Health experts are warning about specific brands of water bottles that are potentially harmful to consumers — thanks to one unexpected ingredient than is extremely dangerous.
Fluoride is a substance that has been the subject of much debate in recent years. While it’s often used in toothpaste to help prevent tooth decay, it is also found in water products and is said to be extremely dangerous for your health.
Officials have found that fluoride can cause harm to the nervous system, and is also not as good for our dental health as had been previously thought. A consequence of fluoride exposure is fluorosis, which can lead to tooth decay and malformation, AWM America reported. The illness develops within eight years a child’s life and includes symptoms like cavities, tooth yellowing and delayed tooth development.
Other symptoms of fluorosis include IQ issues and brain disorders, as well as toxicity risks and cognitive damage. The best way to be sure that you’re avoiding this harmful substance is to check the label of the water bottles you’re purchasing. If they include fluoride, it’s best to avoid drinking them at all costs.
“Fluoride seems to fit in with lead, mercury, and other poisons that cause chemical brain drain. The effect of each toxicant may seem small, but the combined damage on a population scale can be serious, especially because the brain power of the next generation is crucial to all of us,” Phillipe Grandjean, a researcher and author, said of fluoride consumption.
Some of the brands of water bottles that list fluoride as an ingredient include Sierra Springs, Poland Springs, Crystal Springs, Deer Park, Ozarka and Zephyrills. Safe brands include Evian, Aquafina, Dannon and Smart Water.
Many readers disputed the reports that fluoride in water can be harmful to consumers.
“When my son was born the Doctors gave fluoride drops I don’t remember how much I was told to give him, but the fact is he was an honor student and did very well he was in basketball, football. I do not believe there is enough floods to hurt anyone in bottled water. We are told to drink water from our faucets it has fluoride, but also chemicals to keep water fresh and clean,” one AWM America reader commented.
“Be careful about water now. When will it end!” a Newsiosity reader commented on the site’s Facebook page.
