For people who suffer from diabetes, high blood glucose practically means poison. Cells in the body depend on glucose for their energy, thus maintaining a normal blood glucose level is vital.
Glucose is obtained from fruit and carbohydrates. It is then transported through the blood to other parts of the body, but depends on insulin in order to be used as energy. Insulin is a hormone made by the pancreas that allows your body to use sugar (glucose) from carbohydrates in the food that you eat for energy or to store glucose for future use.
Also, insulin is in charge of maintaining your blood sugar level from getting too high, a condition known as hyperglycemia, or too low –hypoglycemia. In type 1 diabetes, the pancreas doesn’t secrete insulin, so it must be administered in the form of injections, while in type 2 diabetes, there is insulin secretion, but the body is unable to use it.
Remember, it is very important to notice the early signs of diabetes:
  1. Increased thirst.
  2. Increased hunger.
  3. Frequent need to urinate.
  4. A dry mouth.
  5. Constant weakness and fatigue.
  6. Unexplained weight loss, especially if you eat a lot more than before.
  7. Frequent urinary tract and yeast infections.
  8. Injuries take longer to heal, even minor scratches.
  9. Blurred and poor vision.
  10. Tingling in the feet.
Important:
Since diabetes, especially type 2 diabetes, is a serious health risk, it’s important to know its warning signs and get tested for diabetes if you have any of these symptoms. Treating diabetes early can help prevent serious complications.
Also, a healthy diet and regular exercise can prevent the development of diabetes, and if you already have it, these two things can make a huge difference on your condition and overall health.
