UN agency did not offer any explanation for the rapid increase in cases
at a time when it was believed that the worst of the outbreak was
almost over.
More than 16,000 cases of the disease
have also been recorded with the bulk of infections and deaths
occurring in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
