ASUP Strike: MASSOB Demands Re-Opening Of Polytechnics, COEs This Month (June 2014)

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra has demanded an immediate re-opening of polytechnics and colleges of education closed because of the strike by academic staff. -

In a statement by its National Director of Information, Mr. Uchenna Madu, MASSOB condemned what it called the insensitivity and callousness of Nigeria’s Federal Government in handling the strike, which has been on for more than eight months.

Members of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics and College of Education Academic Staff Union had been on strike since September and December 2013 respectively.

Madu said, “The closures of the polytechnics and colleges of education have grossly affected the academic and moral growth of their students. This is not healthy for the future of our children who are tomorrow’s leaders.”

He said it was saddening that the closure of the institutions has led some female students into prostitution, commercial sales/factory work and petty trading while some male students have been introduced to criminal activities, commercial motorcycle business and internet fraud.

He further said that those who could not find anything to do have been introduced to smoking and drinking.

“How can President Goodluck Jonathan win next year’s election without the support and votes of the students? Why must the President’s wife keep quiet when millions of students are on the street rotting away with their brains?

“We demand that government should be serious with a good sense of sensitivity in their dialogue with leadership of ASUP/COEASU now.

“MASSOB demands that polytechnics and colleges of education shall be re-opened next month (June 2014) for academic activities. The future of our youths is bleak without education. No nature gambles with the education of her youths,” the statement said.

MASSOB also condemned the police disruption of the peaceful protest of the students of the polytechnics and colleges of education on Wednesday in Lagos.

“The students are not happy with the government. Some Nigeria policemen are primitive in the discharge of their duties. Tear gas and live bullets are not to be applied against the students,” Madu said.

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, and Colleges of Education and Academic Staff Union, COEASU, have been on eight-month and six-month strike respectively.

9 Reasons Why Nigerian Students Fail JAMB

This article was written and sent to liveschoolnews.com.ng by Osabo. A 100 level Student of English Education at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK)

It is not an unknown fact that some Nigerian students after their JAMB examination will end up scoring zero over 400.

Two years ago (2012) when I wrote my first JAMB examination, I had this feeling that I was going to smash the exam with a high grade like at least 350 over 400 but finally I found myself scoring 192 over 400. But I thanked Almighty God for making me among the lucky candidates that saw their results. Some of my colleagues didn’t even see their results and others scored 150 over 400 while others were even below that. So, from experience I will say nine of the reasons why we fail JAMB in this country are:

1: Fear: According to H.P. Lovecraft, Supernatural Horror in Literature: “The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.” Honestly I was afraid then, the fear of JAMB made me think I was going into a do or die affair. I could also remember that the very day of the examination it took me about 10 minutes before I could even start shading some answers all because of fear of what the outcome of the exam might be. So I believe fear contributed to my failure. So my fellow students be bold, courageous and never think of failure in your JAMB examination. JAMB is just like any normal examination, even if very tricky.

2. JAMB syllabus: It might sound funny but believe me, JAMB follows some syllabus topics in setting their examination questions. My advice here is that you should adhere to JAMB syllabus because that is where their questions are coming from.

3. Power of JAMB past questions: My dear colleagues never neglect the power of past question papers. They reveal some tips and sample questions on what you will be facing in your examination. After the examination that day, some of my friends that wrote theirs about four years ago, told me that about 20 questions each came out from JAMB past questions. I was shocked but no second chance for an amendment.

4. Miracle centre believe it or not: This is an open confession, the fear of failing made me to get some A,B,C,D and E from a lady sitting beside me that very day. She registered in a miracle centre. I am very sure my score would have been better than 192 if I had not copied from that girl. After the examination, she showed me the answer her boyfriend sent to her but to my greatest surprise the English language paper type is A but mine is B. Unfortunately to me I carried my Use of English over, so BE CAREFUL.

5: Invigilators of nowadays: Invigilators in some centres usually frustrate students to pay or there will be no communication inside the examination hall. For instance I can remember that day, an invigilator was said to have asked to be paid N2,500 by each candidate to allow them share and communicate with each other but if you fail to pay automatically you will become No 1 Suspect in the hall. They will try anything possible to make you fail unless God saves you.

6: Late coming: Yes, I will advice you all to be at your centre one hour before the examination starts. Try as much as you can to be the first student at your centre. Coming late to any examination will make you feel that you have lost it all; not only lost but you will be disorganised.

7. Breakfast: Yes, we know that a hungry man is an angry man. Before leaving in the morning please take something; at least one cup of coffee or tea with bread will be nice to hold you. Sometimes, your exam will even start later than planned.

8. Long distance: The possibility of a student living in Nasarawa State (Doma) to meet up with an examination that will start around 9.00am in the FCT, Abuja, is just 40/100 because anything can happen. Some students will tell you that they will meet up but along the line, they will be held up along the way. The question is: What if the car breaks down on the way? (I don’t pray for such). What if you don’t locate your centre before the exam starts? The only possible solution for this is just to be in the state/local/town/village where your centre is located a day before the examination date.

9. JAMB paper type: Many students choose to change their JAMB paper during the examination. This is against the law so beware. But let’s assume your JAMB Use of English paper type is TYPE A while the EXPO you have is B do not copy it because they are of different type. Some students will quickly get EXPO from their colleagues without checking the paper type and they will copy it.

ASUP Strike: Poly Students Continue Protest, Slaughters Cow (Photos)

Students of Nigeria Polytechnics and College of Education, yesterday, continue their protest to air their grievrances over the failure of government to meet the demands of the striking Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), which had led to closure of the institutions nationwide.

Education9ja grapevine gathered that, Nigerian policemen stood guard at Yaba in Lagos as students of Nigerian Polytechnics accross Nigeria continued their protest.

The students commenced the day by slaughtering their cow that was seized by the police yesterday during an unprovoked attack and molestation at the Adekunle bus stop by members of the Nigerian police.

The students say eating on the ASUP/COEASU branded cow was their own way of marking May 29, Nigeria’s ruling party’s self-appointed “Democracy Day”.

Apart from disrupting their protest yesterday, the students said one of them was shot on the arm.

I Want Flavour! - Nazareth Jesse Bako Reveals MAD Crush For Flavour

Nazareth Jesse Bako Reveals Crush For Flavour, Nazareth Jesse reveals crush for Flavour, Nazareth Jesse Bako, Flavour
Nazareth Jesse Bako was introduced to Nollywood by star actor and Gulder Ultimate Search presenter, Chidi Mokeme in 2007. Currently, she has starred in over 63 movies and still counting. In this exclusive chat with NKECHI CHIMA-ONYELE, she talks about how she started her acting career and then reveals her mad crush for popular highlife star, Flavour Nabaina.
Read Below:
What are you doing in Asaba?
I am based in Abuja but I am hardly in Abuja because I have a job here. Most times I am in Lagos where I started my acting career. I was in Lagos when I was called up for this job. At this point we don’t know the working title for this movie but when it is finally released you will know. After this movie I will be heading to Lagos for another job and from there, I am off to Owerri, Imo State for another job.
Why are you called Nazareth?
My father explained to me that Nazareth means covenant child. I am untouchable according to the words of God. I was born in Jerusalem but bred in Bida, Niger State. I attended Government Secondary School, Bida, Niger State. Thereafter, I obtained a National Diploma at Bida Polytechnic before proceeding to Kaduna Polytechnic where I obtained a Higher National Diploma in Business Administration. I also attended the University of Abuja where I bagged a degree in Economics and a PGD in Public Administration.
Tell us about growing up?
My father is the King of Robochi Village, located in Keju Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. I grew up in royalty because I am a princess and the first daughter in a family of eight. However, my father is a pastor at the Deeper Life Bible Church and he is a very religious man despite being a royal; he is a devout Christian.
As a Deeper Life church member. how were you able to cope with strict rules like not watching television among other restrictions placed on members of your sect?
It was really tough. We were restricted from watching television and videos. I was also prevented from making my hair. I was not allowed to wear jeans, shirts or trousers including makeup and earrings. Sometimes I had to sneak to my neighbour’s house to watch Indian films and when I returned home my parents scolded me. I felt really bad seeing other kids doing all the things I loved but was not allowed to do because my parents mandated us never to indulge in them. However, I enjoyed the religious aspect of my upbringing because it really helped me in my education and way of life. As an adult I now attend Living Faith Bible Church.
What were the lessons you learnt from your parents?
My father taught me not to use abusive language and to eschew telling lies. He told me that no matter the situation, I should never tell lies but the truth and apologize if necessary. He always told me to consider God first in everything I do and to live uprightly. He also taught me how to appreciate people no matter their background while my mother taught me patience and how to raise a girl child.
What did your mother tell you about men?
My mother taught me to be contented with what I have. She told me that when I eventually become employed, I would be able to get whatever I wanted with my money. She also taught me to beware of whatever a man chasing me tells me no matter my love for him. She told me that I should not believe everything a man tells me because there are lies and insincerity in their words. She also told me not to jump into any relationship but ensure my spirit connects with the man and that I should always know how to take care of myself as a woman.
When you eventually get married, would you believe whatever your husband tells you?
Definitely, you just have to act blind and believe whatever he tells you since he is the head of the family just as the Bible describes men.
How would you know when you finally connect to a man?
It is an interesting feeling that you will never experience until you meet that man.
What are those things you find attractive in a man?
I love hard working, ambitious and successful men because I can’t imagine myself starting life from scratch with any man. It no longer works for women because before you say Jackie Robinson, he has eloped with another woman. I need someone who has made it so that in case he starts giving me conditions about my job, I would be rest assured that he would be able to take care of my needs. Though, I won’t be highly demanding, he should be able to take care of me because I am his responsibility.
What  could make you stop acting?
How did your father react to your choice of career?
He didn’t like it initially because of his religious background. Even my mother, because of the notion people have about actresses, that they engage in immoral lifestyle like prostitutions, she was against it. But I was able to convince my father about the industry and assured him that I will always be his true daughter. It is not compulsory that I must sleep with anyone in the industry to get to the peak of my career provided I am talented. However, my uncles, siblings and friends never stopped encouraging me to keep going.
What were you doing before you ventured into acting?
I worked at the National Assembly between 2008 and 2010. I left to concentrate on my acting career because of the satisfaction I derive from acting.
At what point did you come into Nollywood?
My foray into acting started years back when I was still in school. During the holidays I went for auditions and before I knew it, I started acting minor roles. In 2007, I embraced Nollywood fully after my HND programme. As a corps member I was also acting. Thereafter a friend took me to an audition in Abuja where I joined the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Abuja chapter as an Abuja-based actress.
As a Hausa babe, one would expect you to have started from Kannywood…
(Cuts in) When I started acting it was not possible to join Kannywood because they were based in Kaduna and Kano. But God introduced me to Nollywood through Chidi Mokeme. However, I have featured in two Kannywood movies.
Don’t you think you have added advantage as an Hausa actress to feature in both Nollywood and Kannywood?
It is a privilege and I thank God for it; I will always be delightful working with them.
What was your experience like on the set of your first movie?
Though, I started acting in church but the first and last movie where I played wakapass was entitled Pretty Angel; I acted alongside Chidi Mokeme and Ini Edo among others.
How many movies have you featured in so far?
I have featured in over 63 movies since I joined Nollywood professionally.
In one of the movies you played the role of a bad girl involved in human trafficking. You were so calm acting your role. How were you able to connect with the character?
That was Enemies Among Us, produced by Noble Films. I still don’t know why people perceive me as a very calm and innocent lady in that picture? Maybe it was because of my looks and behavior. Honestly, I think people misjudge my personality. But just the same, it was challenging because I had to depict the character to the best of my knowledge.
Among the movies you have featured, which has been the most challenging?
That was Erak & Eran, where I played the role of a prostitute in 2007. I acted half nude. I wore a mini skirt and bra. I found it very difficult because I treasure my body so much; I just wasn’t used to baring so much. But I had to play the role because I am a professional.
You must have been well paid for that role?
(Laughter) But I wouldn’t tell you the amount.
Can you act nude?
Yes! I can act nude but on my terms and conditions.
What are the terms and conditions?
It is personal; it should be discussed between my employers and I.
You mean you don’t mind people’s opinion and perception of your personality?
Acting nude has nothing to do with having sex on set which I cannot do for all the money in the world.
Among the veterans of Nollywood, who were those you look up to back then?
Liz Benson, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Stella Damasus and Genevieve Nnaji are actresses I have always admired.
Nollywood is highly competitive especially among actresses. How were you able to find your feet?
I enjoy all the advances and complements from fans but the competition among actresses is very high and I don’t think it is healthy. I think we should live in unity because we need one another to grow. I must appreciate all my friends, colleagues, producers and directors for believing in me, especially my fans because without then I wouldn’t be here today.
You had a sizzling romance with Frank Artus which was the envy of most actresses in the industry. What led to the break-up?
We had a wonderful relationship but we both sat down and agreed on breaking up because I cannot settle down with him since he is committed to another woman. But we are still good friends. However, I had expected something meaningful to come out of the relationship and it was not forth coming so I had to move on with my life.
Tell us about the man in your life now?
I wouldn’t lie about my relationship. Presently I have no man in my life. My career is most imperative for now.
Are you saying you don’t have a boyfriend?
I don’t have a boyfriend but I am expecting him to come along (laughter).
So you don’t have a lover?
Yes. I am looking for Flavour (more laughter).
Why Flavour among all the men in the world?
I have a crush on him.
If he asks you for a relationship will you jump at it?
I just like his person but I don’t know him intimately. That is the only way I could know if he is my kind of man but from afar I like him.
How d you hope to have him with all the ladies around him?
I don’t know about all the other ladies around him; I only know about my feelings for him.
How many admirers do you encounter on a daily basis?
I have so many men asking me out for relationships but I need a husband material in my life now.

Senator Bola Tinubu Set To become Nigeria's Next President, Changes Plans

According to Reports From Thisdaylive...

Former Lagos State Governor and a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu may have reviewed his career progression and resolved to go for the nation’s top job, the presidency.

Tinubu, believed to be initially interested in the nation’s vice presidency is said to have concluded plans to announce his bid for the presidency immediately after the party’s national convention slated to hold between June 13 and 14 in Abuja, the nation’s capital. The APC leader, who is said not to be taking chances about his presidential bid, sources say, has tipped a former senator in the state, Tokunbo Afikuyomi, as the Director-General of his campaign organisation.

According to sources, Tinubu has resolved not to be left out in the emerging dispensation and was prepared to give it his best shot possible, especially in the wake of the opposition that greeted his alleged vice presidential ambition through the pairing of a Muslim/Muslim ticket. This latest move, inside sources however claimed, was designed as a bargaining chip to eventually clinch the slot for the vice-president, since it was most likely that the presidential slot would go to the north.

One of the sources told THISDAY that Tinubu was very displeased with the way his vice presidential ambition through a Muslim/Muslim ticket was exposed, hence his resolve to take his ambition a notch up by eyeing the presidency.

His decision to give the presidential bid a shot, another source said may not be unconnected with the possibility that he could sell out if nothing works in his favour, hence a move that would make it even more difficult for the party leadership to push him aside. Tinubu is said to have seen clearly, certain indications that he and some other notable members of the APC might be played out by the younger elements in the party at the June convention and since there might be nothing left for him, he has therefore come up with a ‘Plan B’ in order to survive the turn of events.

Although one of the sources was not sure how Tinubu intends to pull through both the presidential ambition and the vice presidency since he might be knocked out in both categories, albeit on different grounds that are considered trite.

The source said while the presidential bid looks impossible because of the fact that the party has agreed in principle to zone it to the north where a Muslim candidate is most likely to emerge, his vice presidential bid is literally impossible on the grounds of religion. But a recalcitrant Tinubu is said to have continued with his plans, regardless of misgivings and would soon announce his presidential ambition with Afikuyomi leading the campaign group as the director-general.

According to sources, the choice of Afikuyomi was borne out of the need for someone who understood the politics of the SDP/NRC (Social Democratic Party and National Republican Convention) days and has built contacts across board to help sell his candidacy and sustain the momentum.

Aside that, Afikuyomi was believed to have come through as his choice DG because the former senator from Lagos Central and West is believed to boast the kind of energy, networking and experience required to execute a project as huge as a presidential election.

These are some of the moves the former Lagos governor is said to be making in the bid to remain relevant both now and in the experience after. But they are moves observers believe would further unsettle the party and set it on a collision course if mismanaged.

Tinubu was recently reported as pondering a Muslim/Muslim ticket that could feature him and a former head of state, Muhammadu Buhari in next year’s presidential election, a consideration that has since drawn the ire of party members and opposition alike. Not long after came the indications that he might lose out in the current effort at structuring the party, a development some party members feared could lead to Tinubu selling out in next year’s election like he was believed to have done in 2011. But many of the observers believe that the truly defining intrigues would not start to manifest in the party until the outcome of its national convention and Tinubu’s alleged

Unbelievable! 16-Year Old Boy Murders Parents Because They Seized His IPhone! (see How)

16 year old Vincent Parker pleaded guilty yesterday to murdering his parents Carol and Wayne Parker last December. The boy says that there was no specific fight that prompted the brutal MURDER. The sadistic killer told authorities, 'I just remember getting mad,' Parker told the court. 'It's all from my dad. All this stuff like my dad taking away my iPod and stuff.'

The story gets worse. Vincent was an only child being raised by his hard working parents Carol, 57, and father Wayne, 55, in their Norfolk, Virginia home. They did everything right - they lived in a good neighborhood, and helped Vincent become an honor roll student.

But he boy snapped one day . . . and turned into a moster. On December 19, 2013 Vincent left school early while his dad was still at work. He showed up at the family home and surprised his mother - by dousing her in pepper spray.

While the 57 year old woman was blinded and unable to defend herself, Vincent stabbed his mother in the eye, and then beat her with a crowbar and metal baseball bat 'until she stopped breathing'. A medical examiner noted 25 separate smashes and stabs on Mrs Parker's neck, face and head.

The animal then waited patiently over his dead mother's body until his father came in the house. He surprised his dad and hit him in the back of the head with a crowbar, smashing his skull. He then stabbed his father multiple times.

Luckily his father didn't die from the mortal wounds. He managed to call 9-1-1 and tell them what happened. When the ambulance arrived Carol had already died. Wayne survived a short time but died in the hospital.

Yesterday Vincent plead guilty to two counts of second degree murder. A psychological evaluation found him to be both 100% sane and intelligent. He was charged as an adult and will be sentenced in September.

Bitch making money – Maheeda

There has been so much that has been written about the gospel singer, Caroline Sam, who calls herself Maheeda.

The prostitute turned born-again Christian has said time without number that she loves sex and has it everyday, that, when she could not find the sex she wants she resorts to using various sex toys for masturbation, to get the satisfaction she desires.

Though she has claimed she doesn’t prostitute any more since she married her husband but there are some doubts as the lady later claims that “every woman should use what they have to get what they want”.

In one of her trips, Maheeda, who many thought had gone for shows abroad confessed in an interview that she did not perform but just sat around, sipping some champagne and she was paid some $3000 for her effort. “Isn’t that cool? Because they want to see that raunchy chick” she said.

Now, the Holy Chick as she calls herself has been in Holland for a while, business or pleasure, she never said, until she posted a picture of herself as the Display Picture on her Blackberry with a tag “Bitch making money”, flaunting some dollar bills.
